Thanks to a baseball-less Monday on FOX (and a startling collapse on Dancing With the Stars), ABC easily took last night’s win.
8pm
- Dancing With the Stars (5.3/13 in 18-49 demo) drew 21.1 million viewers, up from 19.3 last Monday.
- How I Met Your Mother (8.6 million, 3.4/9) was up about 650,000 from last week; Big Bang Theory was up 550,000.
- Prison Break (7.4 million, 3.0/8) was about even with its last performance.
- Chuck (7.1 million, 2.8/7) lost approximately 1 million fans.
9pm
- In its second week, Samantha Who? (14.3 million, 4.6/10 in 18-49) remained strong compared to last week’s debut.
- Both Two and a Half Men (13.7 million, 4.8/11) and Rules of Engagement (10.8 million, 3.9/9) scored larger audiences than that NBC show.
- Heroes (10.7 million, 4.9/11), down another 560,000, barely eked out the hour’s largest demo (not including Dancing).
- K-Ville (6.1 million, 2.0/5) remained about even.

MONDAY (10/22)
**No new episode of Ellen today. She’s still recovering from all the doggy drama**
- Live With Regis and Kelly (ABC, syndicated): Jimmy Kimmel will be pulling double-duty this week as he fills in for Regis Philbin in NY and tapes his show in LA. (I’m guessing we’ll still be seeing him on Dancing With The Stars as well.) If we’re lucky, Guillermo will fill in for Gelman too.
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): The show returns tonight after being preempted by baseball last week. What? You don’t care either?
- Heroes (NBC, 9pm): Many fans have been waiting for Kristen Bell’s debut tonight. Unfortunately, she’s one more new character I’ll have to ignore.

Monday’s competition saw the introduction of a new show (Samantha Who?) and the sports-related interruption of a few others (Prison Break, K-Ville). By night’s end, it was a one-two finish for ABC and CBS.
8pm
- With 19.3 million viewers, Dancing With the Stars (4.6 rating/11 share in 18-49) took the 8pm hour.
- Chuck (8.2 million, 3.2/8) had a huge gain from last week in the demo market.
- How I Met Your Mother (8 million, 3.1/9) remained fairly steady as did Big Bang Theory (8.2 million, 3.2/8).
- FOX’s Indians/Red Sox game 3.0/7) averaged 9.9 million viewers.
9pm
- Samantha Who? (14.3 million, 4.4/10 in 18-49) kept a large part of the DWTS audience.
- Heroes (11.3 million, 5.1/12) had the highest demos of the whole evening.
- Both Two and a Half Men (13.8 million, 4.8/11) and Rules of Engagement (11 million, 4.0/9) saw improvements in the 18-49 age group.

Monday Ratings: ABC Dances Away With Another Win
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Dancing With The Stars, Everybody Hates Chris, Heroes, Prison Break, The Bachelor, Ratings,
It’s unclear how some of these programs would have fared without stiff competition from Monday Night Football and the Yankees/Indians game. Regardless, it’s not surprising that to report that ABC easily danced away with another ratings victory (followed by CBS, NBC, FOX and CW).
8pm
- The 1.5 hour Dancing with the Stars (4.9 rating/12 share in demo) ruled with 19.3 million viewers.
- NBC’s Chuck (2.6/7 share) was down 13% with 7.1 million.
- Prison Break (7.2 million, 3.0/8) pulled up third.
- How I Met Your Mother (8 million, 3.2/9) gained 150,000 viewers while Big Bang Theory (8.4 million, 3.4/8) lost 200,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (2.6 million, 1.1/3) was up slightly while Aliens in America (2.1 million, 0.8/2) dropped 230,000 from its premiere.
9pm
- Heroes (10.7 million, 5.0/11) was down 24% from its premiere but still pulled the hour’s win in the 18-49 age group.
- CBS’s Two and a Half Men (13 million, 4.4/10) lost 400,000 fans; Rules of Engagement (10.7 million, 3.8/9) gained 200,000.
- K-Ville (5.4 million, 2.0/5) remained steady with last week.

ABC Takes Ratings Lead Sunday, Monday Nights
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Heroes, Prison Break, The Bachelor, Ratings,
This weekend’s ABC premieres made it clear audiences prefer their dramas soapy on Sunday nights.
- Although Desperate Housewives (19.3 million viewers, 7.4/17 share in 18-49 demo) and Brothers & Sisters (13.3 million, 5.1/13) were both down from last year’s premieres (23% and 15% respectively), both shows earned their best numbers since Nov. 26th.
- Cold Case (13.5 million, 3.4/8) and Shark (11.4 million, 2.7/7) did improve upon last week’s premieres, though Shark’s numbers were lower compared to last year’s time slot holder (Without a Trace).
- The Simpsons (8.4 million, 4.2/11), King of the Hill (7.2 million, 3.5/9) and Family Guy (7.9 million, 4.2/10) all underperformed their numbers from last Sunday.

‘Prison Break’ Premiere A Ratings Disappointment
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Daytime, Prime Time, FOX, Prison Break, Ratings,
Who says the third time’s a charm?
At 7.9 million viewers, Monday night’s premiere of Prison Break was a ratings dud. Season Three’s opener was down approximately 2 million as compared to last year. Even reruns of How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine fared better in the same time slot last night. Unfortunately, this slow start doesn’t bode well for the rest of Prison’s season. Come next Monday, the inmates will be facing stiff competition from Dancing With The Stars and a new episode of Mother.
But should the execs at Fox really be surprised by the low turnout? I think it’s safe to say they underestimated the fans who wanted more than rehash. This time it’s Lincoln trying to save Michael? What a twist! Half the cast is locked up in the same prison? Convenient! Pretty boy Michael Scofield hasn’t been turned into someone’s b**** in that hellish Panamanian prison? C’mon!!!! Does anyone honestly believe he could survive with that steely glare alone? I was already miffed when I heard Dr. Sara Tancredi would be absent from the show; last night’s lackluster episode has just compounded my disappointment.
Granted, this show has never been based on plausibility…but it was once based on creativity. Just knowing the series could be extended for another two or three years is already tiring me out. And since the writers are constrained by the show’s title—who will eventually end up in prison next? Lincoln’s son?

Scoop On FOX’s ‘Prison Break’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Prison Break,
Remember believing Prison Break was going to be a single-season show? Ever wondered how long the jailbirds could keep running? Still hoping the series can eventually finish on a satisfying and climactic note?
Well it may put a damper on your Season Three viewing enjoyment to know an end is probably nowhere in sight. Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) is already hinting that another two or three seasons could still be in the works. WTF?? Let’s just hope Prison doesn’t run creatively dry like that other FOX show, 24.
Meanwhile, I have to lodge another complaint against the series. What does it have against strong women? It was hard enough not to take it personally when Veronica (Lincoln’s girlfriend) was killed off early last season. Now it’s being reported by TV Guide that Dr. Sara Tancredi—Scofield’s druggie honey—will soon be MIA as well. It’s not known why or how the character will disappear, but I find the decision to be quite suspect considering actress Sarah Wayne Callies just become a mother in real-life.
